In a young pond, or one that's just come through a cold Canterbury winter, that bacteria population is low - which is exactly when problems start.
Without enough bacteria, waste accumulates faster than the ecosystem can process it. Water clouds, algae gets an opening, and sludge builds up on the pond floor. Getting the Dosing Right

For new ponds or spring start-up, treat twice weekly for the first two weeks, then settle into a weekly maintenance dose.
