Eco-system Pond FAQs
Are garden ponds high-maintenance?
1
No - Aquascape ecosystem ponds are designed to be naturally self-balancing. Biological filtration, aquatic plants, and beneficial bacteria work together to keep the water clear with minimal intervention. Most owners spend around 15-20 minutes per week on basic upkeep such as topping up water and removing debris.
Can ponds work in small spaces?
2
Yes - ecosystem ponds can be built from as small as 2.4m x 3m, making them suitable for most Canterbury gardens. We custom design every pond to suit the scale, style and conditions of your specific site, whether that's a compact urban garden in Christchurch or a larger rural property in Selwyn.
How do ecosystem water features stay clean without chemicals?
3
These systems use biological filtration, such as skimmers and BioFalls filters, which provide surfaces for beneficial bacteria and plants to break down waste and nutrients. This natural biological process greatly reduces algae and keeps water looking clear without harsh chemical treatments.
Will my water feature attract mosquitoes?
4
A well-designed ecosystem feature won’t become a mosquito magnet. Moving water, natural filtration, and fish that feed on larvae all help prevent mosquito breeding.
How much does a pond or pondless waterfall cost in Canterbury?
5
Costs vary depending on size, complexity and site conditions. As a general guide, pondless waterfalls start from $13,500 and ecosystem ponds start from $15,500. Get in touch to discuss your project and receive an accurate estimate for your property.
