Laid beneath your EPDM liner before backfilling, geotextile underlay creates a cushioning barrier between the liner and any sharp stones, roots, or rough ground that could cause punctures or abrasion over time. It's also a requirement for the Firestone ELEVATE EPDM 20-year warranty — liner must be fully covered with geotextile underlay and rock/pebble to qualify.
For best results, use geotextile underlay both beneath and over your pond liner — sandwiching the liner between two layers provides maximum protection against punctures from above and below.
At 198gsm, the TECHGEO PR20 is the industry standard weight for pond and water feature construction — substantial enough to protect without adding unnecessary bulk.
